November 28th is the sixth annual #GivingTuesday. Facebook and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have announced they will match up to $2 Million in donations. Donations made to participating nonprofits through Facebook’s charitable giving tools on November 28th will be matched up to $50,000 per nonprofit or $1,000 per fundraiser or donate button, until the $2 Million in matching funds run out.
The match will begin at 8AM EST (5AM PST).
#GivingTuesday is a global day of awareness and giving, fueled by social media and a collaboration of non-profits, philanthropists, advocates, communities and corporations.
In 2016, millions of people in 98 countries came together to give back and support the causes they believe in. Over $177 million was raised online to benefit a tremendously broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness.
#GivingTuesday is celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.), Black Friday and Cyber Monday, kicking off the charitable season, when many are focused on holiday and year-end giving.
This year, FJTC will be participating and would love your help! Here’s what you need to do:
- First and foremost, like our Facebook Page and follow us on Twitter! We’ll be posting regular updates (along with some interesting information on legal aid around the country!) and we don’t want you to miss a thing!
- Please share our posts and tweets! #GivingTuesday is a fantastic way to raise awareness and help fund the many worthy non-profit organizations out there working hard to benefit others.
- Share your story! Part of the #GivingTuesday initiative is to encourage people (just like you!) to share their stories of giving. Just go to #MyGivingStory and post your essay, video or image. You could win up to $10,000 to go to your favorite charity!
- And finally, donate! On November 28th, visit our Facebook page and donate to FJTC. Every little bit helps and with the Facebook/Gates matching program, we have an opportunity to raise even more! All proceeds support our efforts to close the justice gap using the innovation of technology.
