The 2016 Housing Umbrella Group Training and Meeting was a huge success. A highlight for me was hearing from national housing law expert, attorney with Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, professor of an acclaimed housing clinic, and Vietnam-era veteran Fred Fuchs (you can read here about some of his work and awards). Mr. Fuchs discussed LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credits) developments, and made a subject that can be daunting much more understandable and accessible.
For those who follow Florida’s Housing Umbrella Group they know that it has been capably led by Jeff Haynie and Jeff Hearne for years. They have done a phenomenal job and are each true leaders, always setting the highest standards as champions for their clients and communities. At this year’s meeting they handed over leadership to Natalie Maxwell and Patrice Paldino. Congratulations to Natalie and Patrice!
Kathy Grunewald did a tremendous job organizing the entire event, which went off without a hitch. This is the first year holding the training at a new location after many years at the same place and it worked out wonderfully. Everyone gathered for a happy hour after the first day and people broke out into groups to find dinner and discuss exciting projects. As FJTC’s Advocate Community Engagement Manager I was delighted to get the opportunity to address the entire group and to meet so many individuals who are excited about our work. It was fun to introduce people to what we’re working on and I’m looking forward to working closely with the HUG – ultimately to benefit their clients.
